Concept and Characters

The original idea for the strip was to create a complete parallel campus under water with undersea characters for all the real life people and places. Chester was the main character who runs into a whole bunch of bad luck with campus life, the administration and other campus organizations. Mishaps were to ensue.

Several characters were introduced in this style and real life Mr. Stiffler became Mr. Fishler and Mrs. Velinski became Mrs. Shellinski. But this concept became too cumbersome and was altered after the first few strips.

Eventually Chester became more like one of a group of exchange students studying on campus. This allowed for the introduction of humans into the strip and allowed it to to be grounded at UPJ. This also gave Chester the opportunity to move off campus for some activities like voting and driving.

The idea for a foil character to awkward Chester developed into his roomate T.S. Chameleon who was alternatively cool and hip. T.S. was short for “Too Stupid” which was what one of Mark’s roommates called the idea of a Chameleon and Lobster living together.

The strip ran for almost two years until Mark was elected Editor-in-Chief. Mark knew he couldn’t handle producing the strip and all the duties for EIC so one had to go. Sadly the comic wasn’t revisited after it’s initial run.
